NEWZ088 We’re gonna miss him when he’s gone

Looking back at the desaster that dressed up as 2016

After ages we have met in Berlin to at least give a few impressions of this crazy year. So we go through a list of countries that made newz this year eventually ending with the USA where we try to find words for something where it seems impossible to find words for.

  1. Finally NEWZ with a new ‘grum’ \o/
Waited soo loong for this to happen!

And in reference to the episodes title – we’d miss you too…
Glad that this is not the case ;)

  2. Also I heard Boliva is making a good job. I am sorry if this is to much complaining. Thanks for the podcast it really helps improve my english (so please do more, it is not going well right now)

  3. I am disappointed with your description of the situation in Syria. A moderate, Democratic FSA if it ever existed, is long gone, even though western press pretends they still exist, so that there is someone worth fighting for.
Currently the Syrian rebels are dominated by groups like al nusra, which is a al qaida offshoot

  4. Yeah, you’re back!

I find it interesting that Merkel’s “We will do it” regarding refugees gets so much praise. What else could and should she have done? Close the borders? Ignore the situation? Those refugees were right at our doorstep. They didn’t come after she said it. They were already in Europe, suffering in Greece and in Balkan states. She did what I expect of every democratic politician especially one from a christian party. Since then Merkel pushed for tougher laws and a deal with Turkey, making it much harder for refugees to come to Europe.
And I think the only reason she is running again that there is no one else in her party that would get elected. Lucky for her, the SPD may not have a good candidate either.

  5. I hadn’t even noticed that Santos received the Nobel peace prize. That settles it the prize is cursed at this point. First they award one to Obama, we get warfare with semi-autonomous flying robots. To the European Union, we get Brexit. And now Santos, rejection of peace–retroactively! If they want to give you a nobel prize for your cause run for the hills!!

On the Kasich anecdote you left out the best part, well maybe second best, both bits are gold really:

When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.

Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?

“Making America great again” was the casual reply.
